Research

The mission of the Bas van de Goor Foundation (BvdGF) is to enhance the quality of life of people with diabetes through sports. That's why we organize several events for people with diabetes. On two of those events we did research.

Kilimanjaro Diabetes Challenge 2008
In 2008 a group of 8 people with diabetes mellitus type 1 climbed the Mount Kilimanjaro (5.895 m) in Tanzania. The highest mountain of Africa. Supported by a medical and research team the group accomplished this big achievement. Before, during and after the climb research is done to check the influence of high altitude on diabetes mellitus type 1. You find here more about the results.

Atlas Diabetes Challenge 2010
In 2010 a group of 13 people with diabetes mellitus type 1 climbed the Mount Toubkal (4.167 m) in Marokko. After 8 months of training and preparation all of the participants reached de top. A life changing achievement because the participants experienced the benefits of sports and exercise on a life with diabetes. Before, during and after the climb the medical team did research about the effects of exercise on a life with diabetes mellitus type 2. Here you read more about the research that’s done.

Sports camps
Since 2007 the Bas van de Goor Foundation (BvdGF) organizes sports camps for children with diabetes in the age of 10 till 15 years old. During the camps the BvdGF stimulates selfregulation, with medical back-up from serveral doctors and diabetes nurses. Monitoring the effectiveness of the camps is an important part. Below you'll read more about the research that has been done.
